The first thing we have to say is WOW. And THANK YOU. Whole Foods Market Team Member Volunteer Bobby Covington did an outstanding job dreaming up and organizing the Road to Prosperity 5K at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas on January 11!!

The Road to Prosperity 5K was the first ever race organized in Austin to benefit Whole Planet Foundation and The Blessing Basket Project. Bobby was inspired to create the event after he went on the Whole Foods Market Team Member Volunteer Program organized by Whole Planet Foundation to northern Ghana, where he and the other volunteers were hosted by The Blessing Basket Project.

It was a cold day in Austin, but that didn’t deter the enthusiastic runners! Congratulations to John Hayes, who finished first among the guys, and Lyne Bessette, who was the first female runner across the finish line.

The event raised an amazing $7,000, split between both organizations. The $3,500 raised for Whole Planet Foundation will create 18 new microloans that will help 90 people on their road to prosperity! And those funds raised will be repaid and re-loaned again and again. The generous support of all the participants and sponsors will help women entrepreneurs change their own lives.

Thank you to everyone who came out to this event or donated! And of course, thank you to Bobby. We are completely blown away by his incredible enthusiasm and ingenuity. This was the first time he ever organized a 5K, and so many of his own hours went into making the run a huge success. Bobby’s passion around creating this event after volunteering with The Blessing Basket Project in Ghana is a true inspiration.
