- Jamii Bora client in Kenya
In October of 2008, Whole Planet Foundation teamed up with Unitus, an international microfinance accelerator, and Jamii Bora, a microfinance institution, in the Nyeri Province of Kenya where Whole Foods Market sources coffee in order to make a significant impact on global poverty by increasing access to life-changing microfinance services for the working poor. Unitus partners with young, high-potential microfinance institutions throughout the developing world and helps them build capacity, attract capital, and achieve exponential growth. Whole Planet Foundation’s support will enable Unitus to partner with six new MFIs around the world over the next 3 years. By partnering with Unitus, MFIs will have access to expert support to help their organizations grow, increase their reach, and ensure long-term sustainability. To date, Unitus partners grow 7 times faster than the industry average, increasing the speed with which families can access financial services and achieve economic self reliance. By partnering with Unitus, Whole Planet Foundation will help to dramatically increase the number of the world’s working poor who have access to affordable and appropriate financial services.
