Whole Planet Foundation Board of Directors Approves New Microlending Project in Peru

Whole Planet Foundation is partnering with Pro Mujer in the Arequipa region of Peru where Whole Foods Market sources onions. The organization is part of the Pro Mujer microfinance network dedicated to empowering Latin American women to lift themselves out of poverty through access to microfinance, health services and business training. With operations in Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru, the network already serves an estimated 222,000 women, and over one million children and extended family members. In Peru alone, Pro Mujer currently serves more than 50,000 clients. The average loan is $245 and the focus is on poor rural women. Whole Planet Foundation has pledged to fund $300,000 over 3 years, for on-lending in a new branch to reach 3,329 new clients.
