On April 27, 2007 the First Lady of Guatemala, Mrs. de Berger, along with numerous media contacts visited Whole Planet Foundation's micro-entrepreneurs in the Lake Atitlan region. She was accompanied by Alomgir Hossain, Country Director for Grameen Guatemala, Donnell Ocker, Vice President of Partnership Development and Steve Wanta, Field Project Manager both of the Foundation, and technical staff from Creciendo Bien a non-profit organization. Creciendo Bien (Growing Well) is an organization working throughout the country to inform and educate women about health, nutrition, water sanitation, empowerment for women - they have supported a network of literally thousands of women to help them raise healthier families. This visit to the field planted a seed for a very significant partnership among Grameen Guatemala, Creciendo Bien, Banrural - a development bank, Grameen Trust and Whole Planet Foundation to literally expand our micro-lending program across the entire country to reach Creciendo Bien's network of women.
The visit also resulted in several local media articles, television spots and a more comprehensive feature article, "Micro créditos para los mas Pobres" in one of the largest nation wide newspapers, Prensa Libre.
