With a little less than a week away from Austin’s first ever philanthropic music festival, we couldn’t be more excited to share this experience with you! The 2nd Street District, Whole Planet Foundation and Comfort the Children International (CTC) are hosting 2nd Street Soundcheck, a free, fun-loving downtown Austin celebration of social responsibility, philanthropy and live music, presented by Stonyfield Organic. What started as a happy hour conversation about hosting an event to inspire local to global change has turned into an amazing endeavor that we are extremely proud of and that will make a lasting impact on the communities we support.
On Saturday, June 2nd from 1 to 7 p.m., Austinites will be able to rock out to bright emerging acts as well as artists who have graced the pages of Paste and Rolling Stone magazines. Brushfire Records’ Rogue Wave and the exploding talent of Polica will headline the festival, along with sets by Alpha Rev, Ponderosa, Seryn and Cowboy & Indian. For an exclusive preview of the amazing lineup, please visit the event site and tune into our Spotify playlist. I listen to this mix every day while I am at work to get me excited for the big day!
Festival-goers will be able to chow down on global cuisine and snag souvenirs from more than 40 food vendors, restaurants and brands that stand for ethical progress and change – all raising awareness and funds for CTC’s community development work and Whole Planet Foundation’s poverty alleviation efforts.
In case you aren’t familiar with CTC, they work alongside Kenyan communities to provide resources that create sustainable change. Established in 2003, CTC’s initiatives focus on education, environment, economy, health and community development that directly impact the community as a whole. CTC’s programs are delivered through local relationships, providing the empowerment necessary to make lasting change. Starting in 2011, Whole Foods Market is supporting several dozen team members to volunteer in Kenya with CTC to participate in their community development initiatives through the Team Member Volunteer Program, and we are thrilled to take our partnership with them to the next level by joining forces to host 2nd Street Soundcheck. Learn more about CTC.
To provide everyone with an intimate opportunity to learn how to advocate and act locally to make an impact globally, we will host a series of fireside chats in our So Good Lounge, located at the corner of Guadalupe and 2nd Street, from 1 to 7 p.m.. Sign up for a chat to dig deeper on issues surrounding microcredit, goal driven learning and community development.
This year’s festival is the first of what we hope to be many 2nd Street Soundcheck events aimed at helping Austin locals join forces to make a global impact, and we would not be able to host this event without the amazing support from our sponsors as well as Studio Azul for producing our event marketing materials!
